Dragging dog tied to vehicle
Soldotna, AK (US)

Incident Date: Tuesday, Feb 12, 2002
County: Kenai Peninsula

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Warren Eide

A Soldotna man was charged last week with driving while intoxicated and cruelty to animals after driving his vehicle into a ditch with his dog in tow behind it.

Warren Eide, 34, was driving his 1988 Dodge pickup Thursday about 11 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle and went into a ditch in front of Vaughn's Mini-Mart, near Mile 18.5 of Kalifornsky Beach Road.

In addition to the DWI charge, a charge of cruelty to animals was leveled against Eide when it was discovered he had not unleashed his dog from the hitch of his truck when he left his previous stop.

The dog was dragged for several miles before Eide crashed his vehicle.

The dog, a husky, was taken to Twin Cities Veterinary Clinic in Soldotna, where the veterinarian on duty determined the injuries were life-threatening and the dog was euthanized.

Eide was remanded to Wildwood Pretrial Facility and held in lieu of $500 bail.

The charge of cruelty to animals is being forwarded to the Kenai District Attorney's Office.
