Three dogs stabbed, one dies from wounds
San Jose, CA (US)

Incident Date: Tuesday, Jan 2, 2001
County: Santa Clara

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

Three dogs knifed and one dies from its wounds. The 3-year old Labrador-shepherd mix, Mamas, was in shock and the veterinarian confirmed the dog had been stabbed in the throat.

A second dog, a Labrador named Boo had also been stabbed and had bled to death from a severed artery while trying to get home.

The third dog, a two year old Chihuahua-terrier mix named Turbo, was also knifed. Turbo was discovered shivering in a corner, and had been slit along the back from shoulder to shoulder. The wound will heal and will leave an ugly raised ridge.

The owners said they thought the three dogs managed to joggle the family garage door handle and get out. They suspect the instigator was Boo, "the smartest of the three."

Animal control had one complaint about the Phillips' dogs on file. Last summer, Idara Phillips said, the dogs knocked out a slat in the backyard fence, and someone reported they were chasing some children playing ball.

Phillips said, "They were chasing the ball, not the kids. They are crazy about balls."

After that incident, Phillips said the dogs were kept in the garage, not the yard. Since the stabbings the surviving dogs have become house dogs.

The Phillips' family wants authorities to find out who did this so it doesn't happen to anyone else's pets.
