An 8 year old boy has been charged with a third-degree felony charge for animal cruelty after telling police he took Mildred Mills' 2 year old Persian cat, Smokey, and threw the cat into a pen with three dogs on the 1900 block of Northwest 15th Street.
The owner of the cat, Mildred Mills, asked the boy to leave her yard. He became angry and took the cat which had belonged to Mills' daughter who died from lupus in December and threw it into the pen which contained a chow, Rottweiler and a collie mix, each of the dogs weighted between 60-70 pounds. The dogs mauled the Persian cat to death. Police report states the boy stayed to watch the dogs kill the cat.
Mills learned of the cat's fate from an older brother of the young boy. He had heard Mills calling the cat's name while searching the neighborhood and told her his brother killed her cat.
Mills went to the home where the cat had been killed and the owner of the dogs confirmed he had found the remains of Smokey in the dog pen. The boy confirmed he killed the cat and said he was getting even because Mills was always chasing him out of her yard.
Mills said the boy returned to skateboard in her driveway after killing the cat.
The boy has remained in the Broward Juvenile Detention Center on the third-degree felony charge since his arrest on Feb 4.
The boy has a criminal history of arson and burglary. Case UpdatesThe 8-year old boy accused of feeding neighbor's cat to three dogs went home to his family wearing an electronic monitoring device.
