Robert Allen Holloman was arrested Sunday (Jan 9) afternoon and charged with cruelty to animals after someone shot a dog to death at a home in the 10000 block of Airport Boulevard in west Mobile County, authorities said.

The Doberman pincher that Holloman allegedly killed belonged to Roberta Beck, said Christina Bowersox, spokeswoman for the Mobile County Sheriff's Department.

The killing occurred at Beck's residence.

Holloman, 36, was taken to Mobile County Metro Jail where he was being held Monday in lieu of $750 bail, jail records show.

Elizabeth Flott, a humane officer with the Mobile Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, said Monday that a person commits cruelty to animals if he intentionally or inadvertently causes a dog or cat undue suffering or pain.

If the dog or cat is intentionally tortured before it is killed, the charge can be a Class C felony, she said. A Class C felony is punishable by one to 10 years in prison.

Flott said that if the dog or cat is not tortured before it is killed, the charge can be a Class A misdemeanor, which is punishable by up to a year in prison.
