Rabbits starved, abandoned
Powell River, BC (CA)

Incident Date: Friday, Dec 24, 2004

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

A woman walking her dog came across a skinny white rabbit hopping across Gibson's Beach on Sunday, December 24. "This poor white rabbit was all skin and bone," said Audrey Hill, chairwoman of the Powell River Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Two dead rabbits lay on the beach near where the white rabbit was rescued, she noted.

Hill said it is obvious that this rabbit was someone's pet as he is friendly and is used to being handled. "If they're not tame they kick and scratch," she explained.

Hill is concerned that people are dumping their rabbits off when they no longer want them. "It's such a shame, when people treat them that way."

She reminds people that is a federal offence to abandon an animal.

Readers who are interested in adopting this rabbit or another small male housetrained rabbit, also abandoned, can contact Hill at 604.483.3506.
