Police are searching for three men who shot a man and a family dog after breaking into a Seymour Street home, Syracuse police said.

George Suressi, 44, of 416 Seymour St., was in fair condition at University Hospital Thursday night after being shot, nursing supervisors said. A bullet struck his chin, went through his neck and became lodged in his left shoulder, police said.

The dog, a 4-year-old female chow, was shot in the chest, said Sgt. Tom Connellan of the Syracuse Police Department. She was taken to Animal Emergency Center on Erie Boulevard East. At the owners' request, information about the dog is not being released, according to the veterinary staff.

Police said the incident began when George Suressi's brother, Frank Suressi, 46, also of 416 Seymour St., looked outside and saw three men gathered on his property about 5 p.m. Frank Suressi went outside to "confront the men and tell them to move along," Connellan said.

Seconds after Frank Suressi went back into the house, the three men kicked in the front door, police said. One man was holding a handgun, Connellan said.

George Suressi, who lives on the second floor, came to the front door after hearing the commotion, Connellan said. One intruder fired four shots before he and the other two men ran from the house, police said.

The men, described as being between 18 and 24 years old, were wearing dark hooded sweat shirts, winter hats and bandannas over their faces, Connellan said.

They were seen getting into a Mercury Marquis and a dark green Honda Civic parked in front of the victim's house, police said. Both cars left driving the wrong way on the one-way street, Connellan said.

Frank and George Suressi were the only people at the house at the time of the shooting, police said.

Police are interested in talking with people who might have seen or heard the shooting, Connellan said. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 442-5222.
