Puppy buried, strangled by rope survives
Glen Wild, NY (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, Apr 26, 2000
County: Sullivan

Disposition: Convicted

Defendant/Suspect: William Peoples

William Peoples, 63, was sentenced to a year in jail, counseling and prohibited from owning animals for abusing the animal. The crime qualified under a state law put into effect November 1999 making certain cases of animal abuse a felony.

The 8-week old German Shepherd-mix puppy was inadvertently backed over by a golf cart and Peoples apparently tried to kill the dog because he didn't know what else to do.

The puppy was strangled with a rope and stoned, its pelvis broken apparently when a golf cart backed over it.

The puppy named "Miracle" now travels all over the aea to help teach children about the proper way to treat a pet.

Miracle has made a full recovery mentally and physically and now lives a pampered life with dog control officer Liz Keller.

Keller started Glen Wild Animal Rescue in 1999 and Miracle was a patient there after his abuse. Miracle required continual care for treatments and surgery to his injured hips so Keller decided it was best to keep him.
