Terrier drowned in backyard barrel Wauwatosa, WI (US)Incident Date: Thursday, Sep 7, 2000 County: Milwaukee
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: William D. Olmstead
Days after William Olmstead's first ticket was dismissed, a Wauwatosa man has been re-cited for drowning his 4-year-old pet terrier in a backyard water barrel.
Wauwatosa police reissued the ticket against William D. Olmstead of the 7400 block of Wellauer Drive, charging him this time with cruelty to an animal. Olmstead is scheduled to appear in Municipal Court Oct. 4. If he is found guilty, he could be fined up to $953.
Olmstead drowned the dog, which had a history of biting people, in an attempt to reduce a $284 ticket his wife, Anne, received after the the dog bit a 9-year-old girl Sept. 7.
Olmstead told police he didn't have the $25 to have a veterinanrian put the dog to sleep.
Municipal Judge Richard Baker last week cut Anne Olmstead's fine to $99.50 and dismissed the ticket against her husband, saying the charge of improper maintenance and care of animals does not cover killings. References « More cases in Milwaukee County, WI
