Alleged: Robert Holcomb
Robert Holcomb was charged with animal cruelty. Holcomb said he was trying to teach his dog to follow commands when he took Toby, a 7 month old Rottweiler, off leash, then told him to stay and walked across a busy parkway.
When Holcomb called his 7-month old pup, it ran into the street was hit and killed by a truck.
Holcomb was charged by police for animal cruelty and a $50 ticket from Animal Control for having an unrestrained pet. After the collision Holcomb tossed Toby into a trash bin according to witnesses. That is a violation of city code and he received a $200 citation.
The assistant manager of Pizza Time, Charles Chinnis, said he saw Holcomb take Toby out of his car after he ordered pizza to go. Chinnis said the dog was on a leash.
Holcomb walked across the street to purchase cigarettes from Party Time Liquor. On his way back to pick up his pizza, he decided to have Toby do a "training exercise". Toby died instantly when he was hit by the truck.
After the dog was killed, Holcomb dragged the dog back to his car, put it inside, drove to a nearby garbage bin and threw the dog inside the dumpster.
Detective Slav Markiewicz said Holcomb described Toby as his best friend.
Markiewicz said he didn't seem to be a callous person who had something against animals, but the decision to train the dog on a very busy stretch of Boniface Parkway was negligent. If someone is negligent, they can be charged.
Holcomb was also cited for driving with a revoked license. Both police citations are considered misdemeanors. References |
