Police are searching for the person behind a robbery that turned into a disturbing case of animal abuse Wednesday night when the suspect shot a dog in the face.
It happened in the area of 19th and Maryland avenues.
"He was shot in the face right next to one of his eyes," explained Diane Paster of the Emergency Animal Clinic. "The bullet went through his nose, into his mouth and back out."
As bad as it sounds, Kolby is still very lucky. The bullet broke his jaw, but it didn't kill him.
"He's had some pain meds, fluids and has been treated for shock," Paster said. "He's going to go to an oral surgeon and have his jaw repaired."
Vets at the Emergency Animal Clinic treated Kolby right after the shooting, stabilizing him so he'd be strong enough to survive surgery. Kolby is expected to make a full recovery. Neighborhood MapFor more information about the Interactive Animal Cruelty Maps, see the map notes.
