Sheriff's Office Deputy Milton Pesante charged Bruce Jerome Gaines with numerous counts of animal cruelty after it was discovered that the suspect failed to care for horses that were in his custody. Sheriff's Office Detectives were contacted and along with the St. Mary's County Animal Warden responded to a Hollywood residence in regards to a neglect complaint filed involving (5) five separate horses. The horses were found to be in extremely poor health related to lack of care, food and medical needs. The animals were suffering from infections and malnutrition to the point their bones were prominent. All of the animals were seized, one of which has been released to the care of it's actual owner. Ten (10) total counts were charged in all, to include animal cruelty and animal cruelty-failure to provide nutritious food. He is released pending a hearing before the District Court.
