Cat owner Roger Hensley reported his family cat Suki missing three weeks ago. He let her out in the morning as usual, not knowing it would be the last time he would see her alive.

"I'm retired, so I guess I got a lot closer than I thought," Hensley said of Suki.

Hensley put "missing" posters on about 60 poles around the neighborhood in his search for the cat, sometimes more than once. His posters never mentioned his home address. So when he found Suki in the basement of his home, he knew someone had been watching him closely.

After constant searching, Hensley had decided to go down to his basement to work on his model trains. When he entered the basement, he could feel that something wasn't right.

"I went back upstairs to get a flashlight," said Hensley.

What Hensley saw, he never would have expected. Suki was lying on the basement floor with her eyes cleanly cut out. It appeared that her head was smashed and still bleeding. Hensley said the body was still warm.

"I know she waited for me to come," Hensley said. "They wouldn't bring her back alive, they had to bring her back dead."

Hensley wishes that he could've spent Suki's last moments alive with her.

Hensley believes that it was more than one person who did this. After the incident, Hensley wrote a letter to the editor of the Anderson Herald Bulletin and went to the Police.

One local woman responded to the article in the paper by offering a $500 reward for any information that would lead to the capture and conviction of the individual(s) responsible.

"I know $500 is a lot of money for a cat, but she was my cat, and I was hers," Hensley said.

While Hensley is still upset over the death of his cat, he got another cat this week from the Humane Shelter in Anderson. While Shadow looks similar to Suki, he has his own personality and the company helps Hensley through the hard times.

"Suki would bounce when she walked, Shadow sways through the house. This is the first time he's played around, and it's nice," Hensley said.
