Cesar Othon, 22, has been convicted of kicking an adult pit bull and a puppy, binding their legs and muzzles with baling wire and pinning the puppy under a spare tire in a truckbed.

The Pima County man was convicted of Class 1 misdemeanor animal abuse and was sentenced on Sept 20 to spend 120 days in the county jail.

Judge Michael Alfred of Pima County Superior Court could have sentenced Othon to six months in jail, three years' probation and ordered him to pay a $2,500 fine and restitution for the dogs' aftercare.

Deputy County Attorney Kerry Muehlenbeck, prosecutor, said there will be no probation period after Othon serves his time and there is no restriction on future pet ownership.
