County: New Kent

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Kenneth L. Matthews

Kenneth L. Matthews of Lanexa was charged with killing a neighbor's puppy with a 12-gauge shotgun.

Matthews said the 8-month old mixed breed puppy tore up his yard and got into his garbage.

The owner, Laura Cowles Loftin, said the puppy usually stayed inside and that Matthews had never complained. The puppy was a Mother's Day gift from a grandchild.

Matthews was charged with killing an animal that belonged to another, discharging a firearm within 300 feet of a residence and possession of a firearm after being convicted of a felony.

Note: Classifications and other fields should not be used to determine what specific charges the suspect is facing or was convicted of - they are for research and statistical purposes only. The case report and subsequent updates outline the specific charges. Charges referenced in the original case report may be modified throughout the course of the investigation or trial, so case updates, when available, should always be considered the most accurate reflection of charges.
