Dog starved to death Denver, CO (US)Incident Date: Friday, Aug 4, 2000 County: Arapahoe
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Gina L. Trevino
Gina Trevino, 35, is facing two counts of animal neglect and one count of animal cruelty in the apparent starvation death of a mixed breed chow dog found in her backyard.
The chow was found dead, chained to a fence by animal control officers checking a complaint of possible abuse.
"Flies were all around it," said Doug Kelley director of Denver Animal Control. The dog was skinny, and no animal waste in the vicinity.
Kelley said that a necropsy was inconclusive about cause of dog's death. The owner told animal control officers that she was concerned about the death, and that the dog was fine when she left it that morning.
There was a complaint about two weeks earlier that the dog barked constantly, all day and evening, and that it had to lie in mud.
Each count carries a maximum penalty of 180 days in jail and a $999 fine. References- The Denver Post - Aug 24, 2000
