Dog killed, throat slit by neighbor's boyfriend
Montgomery, TX (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, May 31, 2000
County: Montgomery

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Robert Allen King

Misti Campbell was told by a neighbor that her bluetick hound's throat was slit by the neighbor's boyfriend.

Bluebell, a 7-year old dog, was considered harmless by most of Campbell's neighbors and they thought of Robert Allen King as a friend.

King, 42, an air conditioning repairman was placed in the Montgomery County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail on a charge of cruelty to an animal. He faces a maximum fine of $4,000 and a year in jail if he is convicted.

"No matter what the dog had done, except attacking and biting you, it doesn't deserve to have its throat slit," said neighbor Mike Lange. "That's cold blooded murder."

Campbell, 23, expecting her first child and her husband are trying to sell their mobile home and move because they fear King will retaliate when he gets out of jail.

King used to feed Bluebell. She was seen curled up on his porch the day she was killed.

"He was always talking about how he loved Bluebell," she said. "He asked if he could have her. He said it several times."

King and his girlfriend regret killing the dog. They blame the incident on alcohol. They accused the Campbells of neglecting to feed the dog and complained Bluebell knocked over trash cans and growled at visitors.

King used a piece of ham to lure Bluebell behind a shed to slit the dog's throat.

Police found the dog's body and issued an arrest warrant for King.
