51 animals (19 Basenji dogs and puppies, 12 cats, four Amazon parrots, four conures, four cockatiels, four lovebirds, and four sugar gliders) were rescued from a home in Forest Grove in October 2000.

During the year the owner released the 15 puppies and 12 cats, and subsequently the Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter placed them into new homes. The owner was arrested and charged with 41 counts of animal neglect.
