Jacques Picard scoured his property for days, looking for his beloved German shepherd puppy, Pachko. Finally, Picard found the pup, dragging his blood-soaked body out of the woods.

"It was pitiful," he said. "I cried and Im not a wuss."

Pachko suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder and somehow survived for five days without food or water.

"The wound was the size of a dinner plate," says Picard.

Picard immediately took the 10-month-old puppy to a veterinarian in Orwell, where he was told a bullet shattered the bone and it would take a specialist to do the surgery. Picard took Pachko to a veterinarian in Willoughby and, with the use of pins, plates and screws, he tried to put Pachkos leg back together again.

Today, Pachko remains at the animal hospital, recovering from the ordeal.

"The vet bill as of Nov. 30 is more than $3,200, and we still dont know whether hell lose his leg," Picard said. "Whoever did this is sick, sick, sick."

Picard owns Rivers Edge Ranch, 500 acres off Windsor-Mechanicsville Road. This allows his seven dogs to roam freely on his property, he said.

The dogs always come back to the house before dark, he said.

"That day (Nov. 8), only six came back," he said. "I knew something was wrong."

Picard said Pachko is not an ordinary puppy, but a top-of-the-line German shepherd. Hes also a beloved family pet, specially ordered from Germany just like the local canine police officers.

"Hes a super dog, super smart," he said. "If he sees a person, he wags his tail."

Furious over the incident, Picard ran an ad in Sundays Star Beacon, warning the person who shot the dog that hes looking for them.

"Hope youre proud of yourself ... If I dont get a money order (for the vet bill), I will keep hunting for you," he said in the ad.

Picard said he feels confident he will find who shot his dog.

"Someone will screw up," he said. "Ive lived here 20 years with no problems. Someone will say something to someone. Ill find them."
