Sheriff's officials are looking into who is responsible for a dead Rottweiler found hanging in a tree in a rural area near Gold Hill. Rick Kendall of Sardine Creek on Sunday found a female dog in an oak tree on Bureau of Land Management land near Oregon Highway 99.
The dog had no collar or tag, and wsa hanging with yellow nylon rope. Kendall cut the dog down and buried it.
A second Rottweiler, a male, as found lying unhurt beneath the tree. That dog had a collar and was returned to its owners, who live about two miles away and had not seen either dog since Saturday.
Sheriff's officials are investigating. They say the dog's death is considered a felony case of animal abuse, which covers malicious killing and torture of animals.
Residents said they are used to finding unwanted dogs dumped alive to roam around Sardine Creek drainage. References- Associated Press Northwest - April 25, 2000
