weak sentence = one star
strong sentence = 5 stars

more information on voting

When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.

Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "People’s Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isn’t enough.

Dog shot between eyes and left for dead survives
Bozeman, MT (US)

Incident Date: Saturday, Feb 26, 2000
County: Gallatin

Disposition: Convicted

Defendant/Suspect: Andrew Davis Gage

Hope, a black dog who grabbed headlines worldwide after she was shot between the eyes and left for dead five weeks ago, was a media star again Friday during a reunion with the woman who saved her life.

The reunion took place in the lobby of the Washington state University College of Veterinary Medicine, where the dog had been undergoing treatment since March 6.

Pat Hess and her husband, Ben, drove from Bozeman to Pullman to pick up the dog and bring her back to her home town. Hope was happy to see Hess, happy to leave her kennel and run in the courtyard, but Hess wasn't sure the animal recognized her.

The hole between Hope's eyes, where the bullet entered, and the one under her neck, where it exited, have both healed over.

"Hope is like any other dog except her head tilts to the right a little bit, she's blind in one eye and she's deaf," Charlie Powell, vet college spokesman said.

"I think it's a great way for this story to end because she's healed and she's going to be going to a good home."

Hope's ordeal began when she was shot between the eyes by her owner and left for dead at the Four Corners Fishing Access, perhaps as long as 24 hours before the dog was discovered Feb 26. She was found in the trees by Billie Tomlinson, who was walking her own dog.

Hess was contacted and she brought Hope to the All West Veterinary Hospital for treatment and opened an account to pay for her care at First Interstate Bank.

Hope was taken to the Pullman Hospital March 6 and was operated on March 11.

The cost of Hope's treatment at All West was to be paid by Andrew Davis Gage of Belgrade, Hope's owner. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor animal cruelty in Gallatin County Justice Court on March 13. He was fined $200 and ordered to pay the vet bill.
