James Hornacek, age 35 of Hazlet, NJ was convicted of hitting a police horse by a six member jury. He was found guilty of attempting to injure a police animal, a misdemeanor that is punishable by up to 90 days in jail. Criminal Court Judge Ruth Pickholz has scheduled his sentencing for November 9, 1999.
According to Assistant District Attorney Carlos F. Ramirez Mr. Hornacek, during a rowdy protest rally last year, looked Police Officer John Reilly right in the face then proceeded to punch the horse dead in the nose.
