more information on voting

When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.

Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "People’s Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isn’t enough.

Dog shot to death
Berwyn, AB (CA)

Incident Date: Tuesday, Aug 31, 1999

Disposition: Convicted

Defendants/Suspects:
» John Reese
» Alison Reese

A Berwyn couple has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the shooting death of their neighbor's dog in September.

John Reese, 28, and his wife Alison, 33, racked up $2,000 in fines after pleading guilty in Peace River provincial court to willfully killing a dog, possession of marijuana and unsafe storage of a firearm.

They were apparently annoyed at the dog's barking.

Sandi Wilkin, the dog's owner, hadn't expected the Reeses to receive any jail time.

"I just didn't think anything major was going to come of it in the end," she said. "That's just my own feeling on how the system works."

She and her daughter received an apology from Alison.

"I'm glad something came out if it," Wilkin added. "Hopefully, something's been learned."

The Reeses are also forbidden to use or own firearms for two years.

Police have ordered firearms discovered in the Reeses' possession to be destroyed.

Berwyn is a village of about 700 people located approximately 130 kilometers northeast of Grande Prairie.
