A month-long investigation into a suspected drug and dogfighting ring resulted in the seizure of more than a half-ounce of cocaine, $2,000, and 14 pit bulls during a raid in Dennis Township, N.J., law enforcement officials said.

Clarence Feaster III, 32, and Elizabeth Giannini, 33, both of the township's South Seaville section, were arrested and charged with multiple drug counts, said J. David Meyer, first assistant prosecutor for Cape May County.

Feaster allegedly tried to flee, but was apprehended by Trooper Scott Poulton and his canine partner, Raider, in a nearby yard, said Lt. Kevin Rehmann, spokesman for the state police. Feaster was also charged with resisting arrest.

Five adult pit bull terriers, nine pit bull puppies, an adult Labrador retriever, dogfighting manuals, and dog-training aids were found on the property. The dogs were turned over to the Tri-County Animal Control shelter. Feaster and Giannini were being held at the Cape May County Correctional Center, with bail set at $50,000 each
