Elmo James Jr. was charged with siccing his Pit Bull on a Boxer stray (now named Brewster). He faces charges of animal fighting, aggravated cruelty to an animal and causing unjustifiable injury to an animal.
If you would like to help out with Brewster's vet bills, you can call (315) 454-4479.
Officials at the SPCA say they're not sure if it's because Brewster's in pain or if it's just his personality but he's acting unpredictable. That means unless his owners steps forward the future doesn't look good for Brewster. Case UpdatesA Syracuse man who avoided court for months on an animal cruelty charge was picked up by city police two weeks ago and now will serve one to three years in state prison.
Elmo James, 39, of 187 Lakeview Ave., initially balked Tuesday when Onondaga County Judge William Walsh tried to sentence him.
"What? You expect me to reward you for taking off?" Walsh asked him. "What do you expect me to do, apologize and give you a conditional discharge? I don't think so."
James asked to have the case adjourned for several days, and Walsh refused.
James was indicted last May on felony charges of aggravated cruelty to animals and promoting animal fighting. James pleaded guilty to siccing his pit bull on a stray boxer in a parking lot at Lakeview and Richmond avenues.
Veterinarians spent hours stitching up the boxer, which suffered lacerations over his entire body and head. The dog, named Brewster, is now in foster care and awaiting placement in an adoptive home. | Source: The Post-Standard - Feb 15, 2006 Update posted on Mar 6, 2006 - 10:40PM |
