Pigs stabbed with spear
Oklahoma City, OK (US)

Incident Date: Monday, Nov 15, 2004
County: Oklahoma

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

A Moore High School student was stunned Monday morning to find that his prized show pigs were vicously attacked.

Police said someone broke into a pen and attacked two of Justin Magby's pigs on Sunday night. One pig is recovering from injuries it suffered in the attack, and other is still missing, officers said.

According to investigators, someone used a homemade spear to slash the neck of one pig. Magby's sister, April Magby, said the pig is expected to survive despite suffering a massive wound.

"It was 2 meters wide, 10.5 centimeters deep and 5.5 centemeters long," April said. "It was huge."

The second pig is still missing and feared dead. Justin Magby said he thinks someone slaughtered the animal next to the front gate, then dragged it away.

Although there is a visible blood trail leading away from the pen, Justin has been unable to find the pig.

"You got to think like, if you're adults, you have kids ... these are my kids," Justin Magby said. "I've had them for six months, but we get attached."

Aside from the attachment, there's also a big investment involved.

Justin said each pig costs more than $1,000 at market value -- plus the cost of feed. Although he has raised a few champions over the years, Justin said the worst part is that he was hoping to win more prizes during his last year with the Future Farmers of America.

Moore police said they are still investigating but have few leads. Investigators said they hope the agriculture department at Moore High School will be able to help police find a suspect.

Police said that if an arrest is made, the charges would include animal cruelty and larceny of a domestic animal -- offenses that carry a three- to 10-year prison sentence and up to $5,000 in fines.
