Police are investigating a possible dog fighting ring on the First Coast. It involves a three-year-old pit bull named Holly, just returned to her family. Police say she's one of several dogs stolen from their homes and possibly forced into fighting.

Holly's owner, Wayne Jaudon, tells the gruesome story.

"It was four against one," he said. "She wouldn't fight so they started beating her to make her fight."

On Monday night, Holly's breathing was shallow and her body covered by one bite mark after another. Holly is again at home after a tip call pointing the owner to a home. He found Holly in bad condition there. Jaudon points out the numerous lacerations on Holly's body, the family dog he bought for his little girl.

On Sunday night, Holly was stolen from her backyard for what police believe could be a dog fighting ring.

"You've got two to three reports where pit bulls were stolen and allegations that people are making these dogs fight," said Ken Jefferson with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police arrested 21-year-old Terrance Freeman on animal cruelty charges. They say Freeman was arrested while running from Brentwood Park. His own pit bull was found chained to the fence, badly injured after what appeared to be a dog fight. Police believe Freeman was forcing dogs to fight in a local park.

Animal control is now involved in the investigation.
