Former township mayor, Paul Nemeth, 57, was charged with malicious killing of an animal, possession of a firearm for unalwful purpose and possession of a firearm without a permit He was released after posting 10 percent of a $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned the Hunterdon County Courthouse in Flemington, NJ.
The Hunterdon County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals added charges of cruelty in the death of a 7-month of Samoyed.
Nemeth confessed after NJ State Police came to the home of Lou and Carole Chiaffarono to investigate the shooting death of their dog. Investigation led them to Nemeth, who gave police persmision to search the home. When the troopers found a loaded .22-caliber rifle with a scope in the garage, Nemeth confessed to shooting the dog.
