Steven Eric Brennan, Hampton man, accused of injuring cows when he fired a shotgun into the air, was acquitted of three counts of maiming cows. Brennan admitted firing three shots into the air, but he testified he fired near an open field with no livestock.
During a trial it was agreed that Steven Eric Brennan, three other men and a juvenile went to Isle of Wight in November, were drunk in public and destroyed 14 mailboxes with a baseball bat.
Attorney W. Parker Councill argued the shotgun wounds to three of William Barlow's cows were a consequence of the shots Brennan fired. All three cows survived, although one has a permanent limp. A jury deliberated 45 minutes before acquitting Brennan. References | Associated Press Virginia Wire - Aug 13, 1998 |
