A Geneseo man has been charged with dumping calf carcasses throughout Geneseo, including one at the State University College at Geneseo campus. David Vandeweert, 34, of 5413 Lima Road, Geneseo, was charged with four counts of unlawful disposal of a dead animal, a violation of the state Agricultural Market Law. He also was charged by the SUNY Geneseo Public Safety Department with disorderly conduct and trespass, both violations under the state criminal law.
Police, who believe the carcass-littering was a prank issued Vandeweert tickets ordering him to appear in Geneseo Village Court on Sept. 14.
Geneseo Police found two Holstein calf carcasses Aug. 20 in a grassy area behind a Ponderosa restaurant on Jacquelyn Way.
Four days later, officers discovered a Jersey calf carcass, weighing about 50 pounds, next to the HSBC Bank on Route 20A.
Police said all the animals appeared to have died of natural causes on the dairy farm where Vandeweert lives with his parents. White said family members had between 200 and 300 cows on their property. Neighborhood MapFor more information about the Interactive Animal Cruelty Maps, see the map notes.
