Porter County Deputy Prosecutor Brian Gensel said his office is charging John McCalment, 46, of South County Road 675W, whose misdemeanor charge carries up to a one-year jail sentence.
McCalment learned his neighbors poodle, Wicket, was in his Porter Township field in late November. McCalment went into his house to get his rifle, intending to scare the dog off his property, he told police. McCalment went into the field and saw Wicket about 200 feet away and began yelling at Wicket to go away, he said.
McCalment said the dog began barking and came at him. He said he fired his rifle in the general direction and accidentally hit the dog. References« Back to Search Results
