An investigation is underway to determine who mutilated a puppy in an apparent attempt to neuter the animal. The dog is recovering at the Humane Society of Indianapolis after the incident on Friday. Officials say a man who brought in the dog said the "breeder" he got the dog from had recently neutered the dog. But that's not what happened.
"The dog obviously had no anesthesia, and the people didn't even understand what they were doing since they cut off his penis in an attempt to neuter him. So I think it's very cruel and hopefully we get a better home for the little guy that where he came from," said Janet Lubinski, Humane Society staff veterinarian.
The dog's prognosis is good. The Humane Society says the animal will probably be put up for adoption and should live a normal life with the exception of urinating normally.
Lubinski also said it's important to spay or neuter your pets, but that no one should ever try to do it at home.
