Alleged: Michael Hutton
A Beaufort man was arrested Oct. 4 and charged with animal cruelty after a roommate reported him to sheriff's deputies for mistreating his dog.
Michael Hutton, 22, a Marine stationed at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, deprived the 8-month-old dog, Amelia, of water and food for days at a time and repeatedly beat the dog for minor infractions, according to a statement from one of his roommates and an incident report from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
Hutton sprayed the dog in the face and eyes with a disinfectant spray when it would not stop barking, according to a written statement from Hutton's roommate, who contacted sheriff's deputies after asking Hutton numerous times to bring the dog to an animal shelter.
Hutton was released from the Beaufort County Detention Center on Oct. 5 on his own recognizance. References« SC State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Beaufort County, SC
