Please vote on whether or not you feel the sentence in this case was appropriate for the crime. (Be sure to read the entire case and sentencing before voting.)

weak sentence = one star
strong sentence = 5 stars

more information on voting

When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.

Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "People’s Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isn’t enough.

County: Wilson

Defendant/Suspect: Tassie Wilson

Two dehydrated and malnourished quarter horses were seized from a Wilson County stable where they had allegedly been deprived of adequate food and water for years. The animals were allegedly within days of death and now their owner could be facing criminal charges.

Neighbors informed animal control and the United States Equine Rescue League moved the horses to a safe location.

"Two of them were in the worst (condition) I've ever seen," Jennifer Hack of the USERL told NBC 17.

A normal, healthy quarter horses weighs more than 900 pounds. The horses found at the Elm City stable weighed about 500 pounds each, Hack said.

"It's amazing to see her spine and the dip here," Hack said, examining a female and male horse. "You can see the edge of his skull here, and that's not normal. They are lucky to be alive," she said.

Still, it could be too late for the animals.

"Usually, I have a lot of confidence we can rehabilitate. But, with these two, it's touch and go if they're going to survive," said Hack.

NBC 17 attempted to talk to the owner, but was unable to locate her. Wilson County District Attorney is considering criminal charges.

In the meantime, the animals are eating food and receiving the care that they should have had their whole lives.
