A 20-year-old Cottonwood man was arrested on three counts of animal abuse after he allegedly beat a kitten. The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office said it began to investigate last month after a girl took an injured kitten to a veterinarian saying she saw Jesus Moreno throw the cat repeatedly against a wall and beat it.

Moreno later told investigators he was angry at the girl and that he didn't like the cat because it scratched him and defecated on the floor.

The kitten has recovered from its injuries, except for some partial blindness. The Verde Vet Hospital in Cottonwood has since adopted the cat.
