A College Station man who was charged with killing another man�s dog by repeatedly throwing it up in the air and letting it crash into the ground has been released from jail.
Erik Grout, 32, was arrested and charged with cruelty to an animal. He was released from the Brazos County Jail later in the day after posting $4,000 bail.
Cruelty to an animal is a Class A misdemeanor.
According to court records, Grout became angry at a dachshund on August 18 and took it into a room, where witnesses heard the dog barking and yelping. People who were at the home told police they later went into the room and there was blood, urine and feces on the wall.
Grout then took the animal outside, the records state, and began throwing it in the air and letting it fall to the ground several times. He then picked up the dachshund and shook it violently, police said, until it stopped responding.
Grout told people at the home he had done it because the dog had bitten him, records state.
The dog�s owner took the animal to the Texas A&M University vet school, but police said it died while en route.
