A Bridgeport woman accused of abandoning her two dogs is facing animal cruelty charges. Aida Graulay is accused of bringing her two dogs to the Bridgeport Animal Shelter on Aug 24, 2004, but she was told the shelter was full. An officer at the shelter gave Graucay a list of 28 other local rescue groups where she could bring her dogs. But instead police say she drove about a mile down the street and abandoned the animals.

Graulay has been charged with two counts of animal cruelty and is set to appear in court on September 3. The two dogs sill need a home; they can be found at the Bridgeport Animal Shelter.

Officials say the states animal shelters continue to struggle with overcrowding, which means problems when residents have to surrender their pets. One option, only a few miles away, is the newly renovated Connecticut Humane Society in Westport.
