more information on voting

When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.

Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "People’s Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isn’t enough.

Dog-fighting - ex-breeder arrested again
Hayes, VA (US)

Incident Date: Saturday, Aug 21, 2004
County: Gloucester

Charges: Felony CTA
Disposition: Convicted

Defendant/Suspect: Rene Lynn Schreiber

Case Updates: 1 update(s) available

Less than a year after pleading guilty to practicing veterinary medicine without a license, former Hampton pit bull breeder Rene Lynn Schreiber was arrested again recently in Gloucester for allegedly clipping dogs' ears and having pit bulls for dog fighting.

Schreiber, 38, received a two-year suspended sentence in November for her crimes, on the condition that she stay out of trouble. She had been cropping dogs' ears without a license. One puppy needed intensive care after the surgery.

Schreiber ran the Pit Lady Store in Phoebus, and she left town last year before detectives could search her business. She was found in Pinellas County, Fla., where she was arrested after two complaints to animal control officers about mistreated pit bulls in the back of a truck. Officials said Schreiber moved to Gloucester in April.

After Schreiber pleaded guilty last year, Hampton Commonwealth's Attorney Linda Curtis said she wanted probation for Schreiber so she would be supervised. Curtis said she believed a probation officer ordered Schreiber not to have dogs, although that was not ordered by the court.

Schreiber is scheduled to go to court on the probation violation. Schreiber's court date might be postponed, since she has allegedly broken additional rules from her probation with the latest arrest, officials said.

In the Gloucester case, police seized 18 pit bulls this month from Schreiber's home on Guinea Road. She was charged with cruelty to animals, practicing a profession without a license and possessing dogs used for fighting.

The Veterinarian that treated a dog whose ears were clipped by Schreiber last year and said he'll never forget the incident - the dog lost a lot of blood and was in shock andrequired a whole day's worth of intensive care.
