On July 22, investigators found three dogs, 28 cats and dozens of decomposing guinea pig carcasses in the home of Michael L. Silvers, 35, and Angela R. Schetrompf, 33, of Lewistown.

Silvers was arrested and is being held in the Frederick County jail in lieu of $45,000 bail, sheriff's Cpl. Eric Byers said. Schetrompf will face the same charges when she returns to Maryland, he said.

Both were charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty, which is punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine for each count.
