A west side resident is under investigation by Franklin County authorities for allegedly arranging dog fights, NewsChannel 4's Duarte Geraldino reported Wednesday.

Sheriff deputies obtained a warrant to search the home of Mark D. Smith and found a 50-pound pit bull, an alligator and a boa constrictor. Also discovered were photographs of dogfighting, a small amount of cocaine and a shotgun, deputies said.

Smith, who is already a convicted felon, is now charged with dogfighting, authorities said. He will be in court Thursday, Aug 5.
