A 40-year-old man reportedly killed a neighbor's black kitten on the morning of Sunday, August 8, 2004. The man was charged with theft, disorderly conduct, intoxication and animal cruelty, all misdemeanors.

According to police reports, the 40-year-old man went to the apartment of a 26-year-old woman at 2:26 a.m. Sunday. Mansfield police Sgt. Dave Nirode said the two lived in the same apartment building on Baldwin Avenue, and were acquaintances.

The man picked up the woman's small, black kitten, snapping its neck in front of her and throwing it on the front lawn, Nirode said. That's where police found the creature.
