Two Vidor teens accused of killing a dog were arrested Friday May 14, 2004 when a sheriff's deputy found the animal's body on the back porch of one of their homes.
The young men, ages 16 and 14, were arraigned by Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Joe Parkhurst on charges of cruelty to an animal and evading detention. The 16-year-old also was charged with aggravated assault/family violence.
The incident was still being investigated, and both youths were being held in juvenile detention.
Corporal Mike Sanchez is handling the investigation: Orange County Sheriff'S Office (409)883-2612 (409)883-4406
Assistant District Attorney: Kristen Walker (409)883-4394 Case UpdatesAfter hours of testimony, an Orange County judge has decided the fate of the 17-year-old accused in this case.
Investigators close to the case say the teen had stabbed the dog to death with a knife and left the remains on his familys back porch in Vidor.
The teen confessed to the animal cruelty charges in court, Wednesday. He was being tried as a juvenile because he was 16-years-old at the time of the incident.
Judge Mike Sheff sentenced the teen to two months probation and 250 hours of community service. He must also pay $500 restitution to the dogs owner.
The owner says she is not satisfied at all with the judges ruling. She was hoping the teen would be sentenced to time at the Texas Youth Center. | Source: KBTV - Jan 5, 2005 Update posted on Jan 6, 2005 - 9:09AM |
