The Dog Casper was stolen on Sunday while her brother was walking home from Petsmart in Sand City around 1 p.m. on Sunday June 27, 2004.
Alfredo Escutia, 13, was near the Salvation Army store on Fremont Boulevard when two men approached him and his friends.
The men asked to pet Casper and he happily obliged, Lopez said.
One man asked what kind of dog Casper was and if he had ever been in a fight, while another man continued petting Casper.
The men then demanded that Alfredo surrender the dog and said they wanted to use the dog for fighting, Lopez said.
"One of the men said they wanted to take the dog or they were going to crack some heads," said Seaside police officer Manny Fernandez, who took the initial report.
One man grabbed Casper and the other punched Alfredo in the face.
The men ran toward the American Legion where they jumped into a white van, Fernandez said.
The teens tried to run after the van but couldn't catch them.
Police described the robbers as Latino men in their early to mid-20s. The first man was between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 11 inches tall. He had a unknown colored bandanna on his head and was clean shaven. He was wearing a black Oakland Raiders jersey with the No. 80 and black pants. The second man was 5 feet 4 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, with short black hair and and clean shaven. He wore a gray, white and black striped shirt, blue jeans and white athletic shoes.
