A neighbor's call uncovered an organized pit bull fight late Sunday and resulted in the arrest of two men and the death of one dog.

Sarasota Police officers arrested 22-year-old Isack Edwards of Sarasota, and 14-year-old Mark A. Mayes of Sarasota, after discovering about 50 people and 11 dogs participating in the fight.

Officers reported to Edwards' homeand found a make-shift pit bull ring with two dogs goring each other, a police report states.

One dog had its jaws clamped around the other's neck. Pepper spray failed to separate the two, and because the dogs were a threat to the officers, an officer shot and killed one of them, the report states.

Sarasota County Animal Control officers confiscated 11 dogs, and one escaped with a neck wound.

Edwards was charged with three counts of animal fighting and four counts of animal cruelty. Mayes, a student at Sarasota's Riverview High School, was charged with two counts of animal fighting.
