Dog dragged behind car Saint Louis, MO (US)Incident Date: Sunday, Dec 3, 1995 County: Saint Louis City
Disposition: Convicted
Defendant/Suspect: Dennis Stout
Stout's girlfriend reportedly adopted a dog from the local animal shelter. After running away, Stout and his girlfriend located the dog in a nearby park. Stout reportedly stated that he was going to "teach the dog a lesson." He proceeded to tie the dog to the bumper of his car and dragged the dog at a speed of 20-25 miles per hour. A person living near the park called the police and an officer observed the dog being dragged by stout. The dog reportedly sustained injuries and permanent nerve damage to his paws. After several weeks of treatment, the dog's injured paws healed over and he was placed in a new home.
Stout was convicted of a Class D felony under the state anti-cruelty statute. He appealed the case, but the original verdict was affirmed in appellate court. References |
