Agents in Brevard County, Fla., arrested two people and confiscated 25 dogs after stumbling upon a suspected dog-fighting ring inside a home, according to WKMG-TV in Orlando.
Brevard County sheriff's deputies went to a residence in Cocoa, Fla., Thursday night to serve a warrant for possible crack cocaine being sold inside the home.
When agents entered the house they not only found illegal drugs but also eight adult pit bulls that showed signs they were used in fights. They also found 17 pit bull puppies apparently being trained to fight.
"We found 25 dogs -- from puppies to adults," Brevard County Animal Services spokesman David Polomski said. "Some (dogs) had scarring on them, which we will investigate."
James Jordan was arrested at the home and will be charged with fighting animals and trafficking cocaine, Local 6 News reported. Another woman, Debra Brewer, will also be charged with possession of a controlled substance.
One thing animal control will do in the coming days is give all of the dogs a temperment test in order to determine if the dogs have been trained to fight. If they have, the couple in the jail could face additional charges.
