Eaton County 911 received a call reporting a dog being dragged behind a car that had reached speeds of 65 mph. The witness reported that they saw the dog running until it fell. Investigators located the dog about 2 weeks later at the mens home and charged them with malicious torture and killing of an animal, which, if they were found guilty, carried a jail term of 4 years along with a $5,000 fine and 500 hours of community service. The driver and passenger of the car were arraigned in the Eaton County District Court 4/3/98, and found not guilty in their 11/98 jury trial. The men claimed the dog was shot dead before they dragged it. References | The Associated Press 4/4/98 | | Eaton County Prosecutor's Office Press Release |
