Three 18-year olds were arrested on Monday, May 16, 1994 after allegedy hanging five cats.  They were charged with animal cruelty and conspiracy to commit cruelty to animals on Tuesday.

The cats were found last week with nooses around their necks and one of them appeared to have been dragged behind a vehicle.

The three youths, Thomas Blanchette, Toshawanka Marbury and Charles Trombley plead innocent to the charges in Somersworth District Court.

Police have called Trombley a danger to society and have charged him with four counts of cruelty to animals.  His bail was set at $2000.  Trombley had previously been charged with simple assault and reckless conduct.

Blanchette was charged with two counts of cruelty to animals and two counts of conspiracy to commit cruelty to animals. Marbury was charged with two counts of cruelty to animals and one count of conspiracy to commit cruelty to animals.

Bail was set at $500 each  for Blanchette and Marbury.  They told Foster's Daily Democrat that they killed the five cats because they were bored. They said they felt bad and have talked about buying new cats for the familes.

Marbury's father, Charles, stated he would not post bail for his son because he did not feel sorry for him.
"What he did was uncalled for," Charles said. "I want the families with the cats to know how deeply sorry I am that my son participated in this.  I heard about the little girl that owned one of the cats and I hope she and the rest of the family can forgive me and the rest of my family.  I can understand if they can't forgive my son."

Police Captain Dean Crombie said that this was the worse case of animal cruelty he had seen in his 20 years on the force.
