Officials reported a case of animal cruelty Wednesday when a small dog was reportedly hit in the head with a pipe.
Kim O'Dell said she knew her 6-year-old dog Gizmo was injured after she received a call at work from the man she was living with.
O'Dell said the man told her that Gizmo appeared injured in the back yard.
After taking the dog to the hospital, O'Dell said she knew the man she was living with was responsible for the incident.
"He didn't like him," said O'Dell. "He didn't like the way I raised him. He said he wasn't a real dog."
The man reportedly admitted hitting the dog because he wouldn't go outside, Garcia reported.
"He walked out to the garage. He got a steel pipe that was 3 feet long, and he came back in, and he hit him in the head and he carried him outside, and he tied him up to die," O'Dell said.
O'Dell, who is six months pregnant, has since moved out of the house and is staying away from the man she claimed almost killed her dog.
"The animal cruelty people told me that if he'll do it to the dog, he'll do it to somebody in the family, and it could have been me, or maybe next time, it'll be the baby," O'Dell said.
The dog was hospitalized with head trauma, a fractured tooth and a cut tongue.
"You know we can't prove that he had head trauma, but his signs are consistent with head trauma," said Dr. Gale Kerr.
The Capital Area Humane Society is investigating the incident and believes there will be enough evidence to file charges Thursday.
Case Updates| Gizmo recovered enough from his injuries to be able to return home. The 6-year-old dog was hospitalized last week with head trauma, a fractured tooth and a cut tongue. | | Update posted on Apr 25, 2004 - 1:15PM |
