Dragging Dog to Death Garden Grove, CA (US)Incident Date: Thursday, Nov 20, 1997 County: Orange
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Benjamin Arizon Albarez
Benjamin Arizon Albarez was spotted by an undercover police officer as he dragged his dalmatian behind his truck. Police later found the dog lying dead in an alley, his neck rubbed raw from his leash. Albarez and his wife, Maria Arizon, insisted the dog was already dead and that Albarez hadn't wanted to put it in the truck because it smelled, but Garden Grove police Lt. Scott Hamilton maintained that all that was known for sure is that the dog was dragged. Albarez and his wife also gave different versions of the events leading up to the dog's being dragged, with Albarez saying the dog had been chained up outside when he died and Arizon saying the dog had been ill in the house and under the care of the family when he passed on. Albarez was arrested and held in orange County jail in lieu of $10,000. References« CA State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Orange County, CA
