Roanoke animal control officers arrested two men last week after breaking up what a police spokeswoman said was a pit bull terrier fight.
Several men were watching two dogs fighting in a garage in the 700 block of Centre Avenue Northwest about 7:45 p.m. when officers, responding to a complaint, arrived, police spokeswoman Shelly Alley said. Animal control seized four dogs, but had not yet determined who owned three of them, or whether they would charge others in the yard, Alley said.
Officers charged Bryan Lamont Simmons, 34, with organized dog fighting. One of the dogs belonged to Simmons, Alley said. Ronald Shepherd, 46, of the 700 block of Centre Avenue, is charged with aiding and abetting a dog fight. The dogs were fighting at Shepherd's residence, Alley said.
Both men face general district court hearings May 20. Case UpdatesBryan Lamont Simmons pled guilty to felony aiding and abetting a dog fight on September 30, 2004 in Roanoke City Circuit Court. He was sentenced to two years probation, with the first two months to be served in custody. According to court records, Simmons was also ordered to pay $915.00 in fines and $638.00 restitution.
Charges against Ronald Shepherd were dismissed. | Source: Case # CR04000802-00 Update posted on Apr 29, 2007 - 7:34PM |
